Gordonians Hockey Club

Gordonians Hockey Club was formed in 1911 to provide former pupils of Robert Gordon's College with the opportunity to continue playing hockey after their school years. Although it was initially only for former pupils, the club adopted an open membership policy in the 1970s, added a Youth Section in 1995 and a Ladies Section in 2001. We continue to enjoy a strong relationship with the College and benefit from the use of the excellent hockey facilties at Countesswells with two astroturf pitches - one water-based and one sand-dressed. Gordonians Men played in friendly matches until the North District Leagues were formed in the 1960s. The 1st XI was invited to join the newly formed National Leagues in 1976, and progressed to Division 1 in 1980 where we competed until 2009 - which was a record 29 consecutive seasons in the top flight of Scottish hockey. During that time our men were runners-up to the Champions twice, won the Scottish Cup 4 times, and represented Scotland in Europe 5 times. Our Men's 1st team now play in Men's National League 2 and our Men's 2nd, 3rd, and 4th teams compete in the North District Leagues. Our Ladies teams play as Merlins Gordonians. We won the Scottish Districts Cup in 2005 and elected to accept promotion from the North District League to National League 3 in 2005/06. Our Ladies 1st team have won promotion as NL3 Champions twice since then, and became NL2 Champions in 2018/19 so they now play in the Scottish Women's Premiership. Our Ladies 2nds, 3rds, and 4ths play in the District Leagues. The Club has been running a very successful Youth Coaching programme for over 25 years with an average of 200 boys and girls from age 6 to 17 attending weekly coaching sessions. Youth players from Gordonians are regularly selected for District and National youth squads. YOUTH COACHING SESSIONS (excluding school holiday weeks) are: Copper Squad (P2-P3) Tuesdays 5.45-6.45 Bronze Squad (P4-P5) Tuesdays 5.45-7.00 Silver Squad (P6-P7) Wednesdays 5.45-7.00 Gold Squad (S1-S2) Mondays 5.45-7.00. Our S2 - S6 girls and S3 - S6 boys train with our adult sections FREE trial sessions are offered prior to joining the club.
